Top 3 Broncos Free Agent Targets
By: Carson Childs
After a solid 2024 campaign, where Sean Payton led a Broncos team with low expectations to the playoffs, there are some specific holes to fill in this offseason. Here are are three big-name targets who the Broncos need to target this offseason:
1. Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
Tee Higgins' value has only risen from the end of the 2024 season, with the market becoming more competitive at the wide receiver position. Higgins put up 73 catches for 911 yards and a career-high 10 touchdowns.
Adding Higgins into the Denver offense would not only open up the field more for Nix, but he would also be a versatile deep threat alongside star receiver Courtland Sutton. Higgins' ability to make contested catches and stretch the field for opposing teams would provide the Broncos with one of the top wide receiver rooms in the NFL. Higgins would likely be expecting around $25 million a year, which would not be an issue for the Broncos as they have almost $35 million to spend this offseason.
2. Zack Baun, LB, Philadelphia Eagles
The Denver Broncos had one of the most elite and consistent defenses in the entire NFL in the 2024 season. However, with many expiring contracts and a few holes to fill defensively, Zack Baun should be at the top of their wish list this offseason.
With current starting linebackers Cody Barton and Justin Strnad having expiring contracts, the Broncos can either decide to retain both or go after a star like Baun. Baun's 93 solo tackles ranked third in the NFL, and he placed second in forced fumbles with five. His versatility in both pass coverage and run defense makes him an ideal fit for Vance Joseph's defense. Pairing him with star pass rusher Nik Bonnito and line of scrimmage wrecker Zach Allen, Denver would instantly become a top-five defense in the NFL. Baun's leadership and playoff experience would also be invaluable for mentoring this young Denver defense.
3. JK Dobbins, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
For the Broncos, a running back should be another one of their top of their priorities this offseason. With lead back Javonte Williams likely not being retained by the team after a career-low 3.7 yards per carry in the 2024 season, look for Denver to target a running back in the draft or free agency.
When healthy, JK Dobbins has been a very efficient runner in the NFL. In the 2024 season, he posted nine touchdowns for 905 yards on 4.6 yards per carry. Dobbins' ability to find gaps and break tackles would be a much-needed upgrade to Denver's running back room. This addition would not only improve the ground game, but also take some pressure off of Bo Nix to consistently make plays, which they so heavily relied upon last season. Dobbins' pass-catching ability would also add another dimension to the Broncos' offense, making them more difficult to game plan against.
