Nik Bonitto: The Rising Star Set for a Major Contract Extension with the Broncos

After an impressive third year for Nik Bonitto, where he finished 10th in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting, linebacker Nik Bonitto is set to receive a massive contract extension from the Denver Broncos this offseason. Reported by Zac Stevens of DNVR, Bonitto's starting salary will begin at $23 million per year.

As mentioned, Nik Bonitto finished 10th in the Defensive Player of the Year voting, which was won by Broncos' cornerback Patrick Surtain. Bonitto's stand out season saw him post 13.5 sacks, two touchdowns, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 16 tackles for loss. This marked a significant improvement from the previous year, nearly doubling his stats. Bonitto made big plays throughout the 2024 season, many of them game-changing plays for the team that completely shifted the momentum. This is why his starting salary is so high, as the Broncos will need players defensively that can change the entire scope of games by making huge plays. Bonitto's ability to deliver was evident in several games, including his interceptions returned for touchdowns versus the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. Both of these plays changed the entire scope of these matchups where the Broncos ended victorious.

His performances have not only earned him a significant contract extension but also generated excitement for fans about a potential superstar Broncos linebacker which was last found in future Hall of Fame linebacker and Super Bowl 50 MVP, Von Miller. Broncos General Manager George Paton emphasized the importance of retaining Bonitto, stating, "Nik obviously had a breakout year. He's a dynamic player, and we want him here a long time." Fans have echoed this sentiment, praising Bonitto's impact and potential to become the next great Broncos linebacker.

With his new contract, Bonitto will become a cornerstone of the Broncos' defense, providing leadership and playmaking abilities as he transitions into a veteran in the NFL. As he enters his fourth year, the expectations are high, and Bonitto is ready to meet them head-on.
